A TERRIBLE MISTAKE: The Murder of Frank Olson and the CIA

You cannot be strong outside if you are weak inside. You
have to defend your own principles in order to be able to fight for
acceptance of your principles in other places in the world.
The question of the protection of our liberties and our freedom
is the basis upon which this country remains strong.

~Bella Abzug during the 1975 investigation of the CIA mind control programs.

Our future may lie beyond our vision, but it is not completely beyond our control. It is the shaping impulse of America that neither fate nor nature nor the irresistible tides of history, but the work of our own hands, matched to reason and principle, that will determine our destiny.

This is a serious story emblematic of the lengths a security state was willing to resort; unfortunately it happened here, in a democratic nation.  That particular operation subjected well-meaning citizens to experimentation without their full knowledge or consent.   Whether or not Lee Harvey Oswald was a subject of a related operation is worthy of pursuit, beginning with the brief period he spent in NYC.
